Wolfram Buchenberg, born in Engelbolz/Rettenberg (Upper Allgäu) in 1962, studied composition and secondary school music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich under the direction of Dieter Acker. Since 1988 he has taught practical piano playing for highschool teachers’ education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich. Buchenberg is counted among the most sought-after composers of our times. His oeuvre includes pieces of various genres and styles ranging from solo to orchestral compositions, from musicals to masses. A large number of works have been commissioned by ecclesiastic institutions as well as by renowned festivals, orchestras, and ensembles such as the Bavarian Radio Choir. This attests to the high quality of his creations. His motet “Ich bin das Brot des Lebens” (“I am the bread of life”) was performed at the visit of Pope Benedict XVI in Regensburg in 2006. He has a special affinity for choral music, with a plethora of arrangements and compositions for mixed choirs, among other ensembles. Buchenberg’s modern and at the same time tonal musical language is characterized by colorful harmonies, virtuosic elements, the inclusion of spoken text and the loosening of traditional rhythmic structures.
