Wim Becu is the inspirational driving force behind the ensemble Oltremontano which was founded by him in 1993 after years of cooperation with the leading ensembles specialising in historical performance practices. The name “Oltremontano” refers to the Flemish composers who dominated and defined European music in the 15th and 16th centuries. In Italy, these musicians were known as “oltremontani”, i.e. from “beyond the mountains”. The core elements of Oltremontano consist of small-bore trombones, woodwind instruments and cornets, closely related to the “alta cappella” of the town waits. The group’s numerous recordings are characterised by unusual programming and the inclusion of musical rarities. Their CDs have attracted extensive critical acclaim. Oltremontano is a regular guest at the major European early music festivals, and in March 2009, the group made its debutin the USA. 1st Cornet: Doron David Sherwin, 2nd Cornet: Anna Schall, Alto & tenor trombone: Robert Schlegl, Tenor trombone: Adam Bregman, Tenor & bass trombone: Wim Becu Dulcian, tenor cornet, rackett:Krzysztof Lewandowski
