Conductor Jochen M. Arnold (Hildesheim) studied Protestant theology and church music in Tübingen, Rome and Stuttgart. His principle teachers included Werner Jacob (organ), Dieter Kurz and Helmut Wolf (conducting), and Heinrich Deppert (composition). As is demonstrated by a large number of CD and broadcast recordings, his repertoire extends from the late Middle Ages to the present. He was a cantor and vicar in Reutlingen. With the support of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, he obtained his PhD (Promotion) from the University of Tübingen. Since 2004 he has directed the Michaeliskloster Hildesheim (Protestant Centre for Worship and Church Music), focusing on the theology of worship services, the organization of worship services, and music in the worship service. Jochen Arnold holds a position in choral conducting at the University of Hildesheim and directs the University choir as well as the orchestral Collegium Musicum Hildesheim. In 2008, he received his second PhD (Habilitation) from the University of Leipzig with an interdisciplinary study of Bach’s Cantatas. Since 2009 he has been teaching there. Jochen Arnold is an Honorary Professor of Church Music at the University of Hildesheim since 2014.
