Gli Scarlattisti

GLI SCARLATTISTI was founded by Jochen M. Arnold in 1995. The group brings together professional singers who have either obtained music degrees or have undergone intensive private vocal training. They are accompanied by a continuo group consisting of four musicians.

Their first recording, of Heinrich Schütz’s Musikalischen Exequien and drei Motetten aus der Geistlichen Chormusik (1648), appeared in 1998. It was followed in 1999 by a recording of the continuo version of Monteverdi’s Marian Vespers. In 2001, the ensemble recorded a group of Vesper Psalms (assembled under the title Vespro Veneziano) by Johann Rosenmüller. Scarlatti’s ten-part Stabat Mater came out in 2006, paired with Arnold’s Diptychon secundum Iohannem. It was followed by a disc of Vesper Psalms and Anthems by G. F. Handel which drew international acclaim. GLI SCARLATTISTI’s interpretation of the complete motets of J. S. Bach appeared at the end of 2009, and in 2012/13 came two CDs containing choral music by Andreas Hammerschmidt as well as the cross-over disc Zeichen.

The ensemble undertakes regular concert tours in Germany and abroad in addition to making broadcast recordings for BR, HR, Deutschlandradio Kultur, and SWR. The group also makes various festival appearances and participates in the Deutschen Evangelischen Kirchentag in Hannover and Cologne (TV recording).
