- Boris Böhmann
Boris Böhmann was born in Worms am Rhein in 1964. From 1987 to 1990 he worked as a musical assistant in his home parish church, the Cathedral of Worms. He initially studied Catholic theology at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, but from 1988 – 1993 went on to study church music and conducting at the University of Music in Detmold. In 1990 he founded the St. Martin Vocal Ensemble in Worms, serving as their music director until 2004. After obtaining his Church Music degree (A-Examen) he became the choir director at the Papal Basilica of St. Marien of Kevelaer. While there, he directed all the various ensembles (including two children’s choirs, the youth choir, the main choir, and a brass group) involved in the music of the Basilica. From 2000 to 2001, Böhmann served on the board of the Association of Church Musicians for the diocese of Münster. Since 1996, he has been a member of Pueri Cantores, the German Choral Association’s national committee, and from 1999 to 2007 also served as presidium member.
Böhmann became music director of the Freiburg Cathedral in 2003, succeeding prelate Raimund Hug. At the same time Böhmann also assumed directorship of the Cathedral’s singing school, where he leads the cathedral boys choir, the cathedral choir, the cathedral chamber choir and the Choralschola at the Freiburg Cathedral. He has given many concerts in Germany and abroad, and has also made many recordings as an organist and choir conductor for radio, television and compact disc.
Böhmann has been a contract lecturer of children’s choir conducting at the University of Music in Freiburg since 2006. In 2015, he is a lecturer at the faculty of theology in music of the church liturgy at the University of Freiburg.
- Andres Buchholz
Double bassist Andres Buchholz obtained a degree in Jazz and Popular Music at the University of the Arts in Amsterdam. Since 2007 he has been only too happy to accompany the Freiburg Cathedral Girl’s Choir on many occasions with his bass, and comments: “It is always a privilage to rehearse with the choir and perform at the service at the Freiburg Cathedral.”
Buchholz has been playing acoustic and electronic bass in various ensembles for over 30 years. Most recently, he has been performing in the Gareth Reaks Combo, the Kilian Heityler Big Band, his own band Zander-Beechwood, and the Mundart Band Goschehobel. In earlier years he enjoyed a long collaboration with his three brothers in the band, The Brothers.
Other engagements have included the Freiburg jazz choir Salto Vocale, the Freiburg Theatre, as well as appearances on radio, television, and abroad. He can also be heard in several CD recordings. In addition to his performing activities, Buchholz teaches privately and at three music schools. He likes to help a wide range of mature students discover and develop their musical abilities.
